HORNET H.E.R.O. ASSEMBLY

Each month we celebrate students in our classrooms who show fantastic Honesty, Empathy, Respect, and being On Task. If your student is nominated, we encourage you to come and join us as we celebrate their H.E.R.O. behavior!

Volunteer Opportunities

We love having parents and family members join us in the Hazel Grove community! We often have volunteer opportunities for adults to come into the school and help out teachers or interact with classrooms. If you are interested in participating, contact your teacher or the school office, either via phone or in person.

These are a few of our current volunteer opportunities:

  • If you are retired and would like to have a great new way to occupy your day, consider joining us as a classroom grandparent.

    Multilingual grandparents especially wanted!

  • We are looking for adults who would like to help with filing papers, compiling binders, making copies, and assisting with other office tasks.

Enrollment and Parental Consent

Stay up to date on school enrollments and parental/guardian consent information. With field trips and other exciting activities happening all the time, it's important to check with your student every day about announcements and permission slips. You don't want them missing out on all the cool learning experiences available. (Most forms will be sent home in both Spanish and English.)

F.A.Q.'s

  • A. Yes! There are tutoring options for before and after school. Contact our office to learn more.

  • A. If you change your child's pick-up routine, you must call or visit the school office to clear the new plan with the school. We recommend you do this at least the day before. If you do not inform the school of the change, your student must follow their normal routine.

Also, if an adult is sent to pick up your child, they must be on our preapproved list. If they are not, the child will not be allowed to leave with them.

You can reach our office at: (913) 627-7000

  • A. Firstly, we recommend speaking with your child's teacher. Depending on the situation, they may help you get in contact with one of our school counselors.

There are also resources that may help you and your child here.

Help Your Student Excell

Help your students do their best in the classroom and on tests by following these helpful practices.

MAKE SURE THEY GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Three children are peacefully sleeping on colorful pillows with 'Z' symbols floating nearby.

It's recommended for school-age kids to get from 10-13 hours of sleep per night.

Being sleep-deprived during school affects students' memory and concentration skills as well as their emotional state and ability to handle stress.

MAKE SURE THEY EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST

Eating a good breakfast is important for starting each day off right. Breakfast helps students with strength and mental clarity.

School breakfasts are provided at Hazel Grove, but are only available before 9 a.m.

Having a nutritiously balanced breakfast is the best. Need ideas? Read more at KidsHealth breakfast information.

REVIEW THEIR SCHOOL WORK WITH THEM

A teacher helps a young student with their homework at a desk filled with books and a lamp.

Reviewing their work is an important practice for helping your students do well in school. It not only lets them share with you what they have been learning, but it helps you see if they might be struggling with anything and need extra help.
