Hazel Grove Elementary School Offer Students a Glimpse into Their Future Careers

Fourth- and fifth-grade students at Hazel Grove Elementary School explored more than a dozen professions during a career fair held in the school gym and on the playground.
The fair, held Wednesday, May 5, featured a variety of professions, including engineering, journalism, real estate, law enforcement, emergency services, heating and cooling, waste management and more.

School leaders said the goal of the fair was to provide students a glimpse of what’s available to them when they finally enter the workforce.
“I’ve seen the lightbulb come on for a couple of different students during the fair and that’s important for them to experience,” said Hazel Grove Elementary School Principal John Williams.

One student was amazed after learning that an engineer at the career fair became interested in his field because of video games. It was that the kind of real-world connection the event was designed to create, added Williams.
The fair featured hands-on activities designed to spark the curiosity of students.

Career fairs are an opportunity to encourage higher education for students, while also showcasing career paths that don’t require a four-year degree.
Students can learn through speakers about the education and training that will be necessary to pursue the various occupations they’re interested in.
